What is a PDI
What is a PDI (Trainee Driving Instructor)?
A PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) is a trainee instructor who is part-way through qualifying as a fully approved DVSA driving instructor.
At Stoke Driving School, our PDIs are carefully selected and trained to a high standard. They:
- Have passed the DVSA Part 2 Driving Ability Test, an advanced driving test lasting around one hour, requiring a very high standard of driving with no more than six driver faults
- Are fully DBS (CRB) checked, ensuring they are safe to work with the public
- Are preparing for their final stage, the DVSA Part 3 Instructional Ability Test
- Work under the guidance and supervision of a qualified ADI sponsor at Stoke Driving School
- Receive ongoing coaching in lesson planning, risk management, and modern teaching techniques
Up-to-date knowledge and training
Many of our PDIs have recently passed their theory and hazard perception tests within the last two years. This means:
- Their knowledge of current theory topics and question styles is fresh
- They are familiar with modern testing standards and expectations
- They can support learners effectively with both practical and theory preparation
While many experienced instructors maintain high standards, newer trainees often bring very current knowledge and training methods, which can be a real advantage for learners.
Why choose a PDI?
- Trained using the latest DVSA teaching methods
- Highly motivated to achieve strong pass rates
- Supported by experienced instructors throughout their training
- Deliver structured, professional, and safe lessons
