Local Junctions

To help our learners properly understand these tricky Stoke, Crewe, and Newcastle junctions, we’ve filmed them using both in-car cameras and drone footage. The in-car videos show the real driver’s-eye view — lane choice, timing, road position, and the impact of faded markings that aren’t always clear in person.

The drone shots add the wider picture. From above, you can see how traffic moves through Basford Bank, Porthill, Cobridge and the busy Crewe crossroad areas, making sense of lane merges, roundabout exits and give-way points that often cause confusion.

Together, the two perspectives give learners a far deeper understanding. They can watch the same junction from ground level and from the air, helping them recognise patterns, anticipate hazards, and build confidence long before they drive through these spots themselves.

Keele Roundabout

Keele Roundabout is a spiral roundabout, and its lane markings guide you smoothly to the correct exit. These videos make it much easier to understand how the lanes work and how to position yourself safely as you approach and move through the junction.

Keeling Roundabout

The Keeling Roundabout has an unusual layout with several exits, which can make it feel challenging. Keep it simple: follow the signs for your exit, maintain a steady speed, stay in your lane, signal clearly, and watch for pedestrians and cyclists. With these basics, the roundabout becomes much easier to navigate.

Porthill Roundabout

This roundabout is a Spiro roundabout, but what makes it particularly confusing is the lack of road markets at this date the highway agency or the council have not corrected this.

Sampson Street

Samsung Street is a small street in Hanley where you have to turn right from a one-way street. It’s very easy to cut the junction you’re turning into as that is a two-way street. Take a look at the video for more understanding.
